Southern Tier – Johnson City Downtown Revitalization Initiative
BJH worked with SWBR and Marc Wouters Studio to complete the Southern Tier Johnson City (DRI) Strategic Investment Plan. New York State's DRI program transforms downtown neighborhoods into vibrant centers that become magnets for redevelopment, business growth, job creation, and economic and housing diversity. BJH completed a retail market analysis for the DRI neighborhood and financial feasibility analysis on proposed projects that were seeking capital funding through the program. BJH also assessed the fiscal and economic impacts of an alleyway retail project that was eventually funded through the DRI grant.
Projects included redevelopments of historic and aging buildings to create market-rate and affordable housing units; a retail alley corridor renovation to increase economic activity and visitor attraction; and a major streetscape renovation to improve safety, traffic flow and walkability.
